How To Change The Oil on an Audi A4 2.0T FSI

Audi A4 Oil Change Parts Needed:
- 5 Liters Of German Ravenol Motor Oil -
Audi motor oil quality standard 502 00 required for Audi A4 2.0T gasoline engines.
- 1 Mahle Audi A4 Oil Filter
- 1 Oil Pan Drain Plug w/ Washer
Audi A4 Oil Change Tools Needed:
- Regular screw driver for under-body splash pan.
- 19mm wrench or socket for oil pan drain plug removal and installation.
- Special tool T40057 for oil filter housing drainage.
- 36mm socket for oil filter housing removal.
- Oil drain pan container.
- Pouring Funnel.
2.0T AUDI A4 OIL CHANGE ILLUSTRATED INSTRUCTIONS
How To Step 1
Allow your engine oil to warm up. Drive your Audi A4 2.0T for approximately 5-10 minutes, allowing the old motor oil to warm up for optimal oil flow and thorough drainage. Open your hood. Locate the oil fill cap and loosen it. Loosening it will minimize crankcase pressure creating an easier flow for the old oil to drain from the engine, minimizing oil splashing.
How To Step 2
Use a regular screw driver to remove Audi A4 splash pan. They're are 10 fasteners. 3 along the front side, 3 along the rear of the splash pan, 2 in the drivers side wheel well, and 2 in the passengers side wheel well. Tip the splash pan down and slide it out toward the back of the vehicle.
How To Step 3
Remove the drain plug. Place a suitable oil drain pan container just bellow the engine oil pan drain plug. Use a 19mm wrench or socket wrench to loosen and remove the Audi A4 oil pan drain plug.
How To Step 4
Allow the oil to drain from your Audi A4 engine into the oil drain pan container.
How To Step 5
Clean any excessive old oil from the oil pan drain plug area. Install the Audi A4 oil drain plug and washer. Using a 19mm socket wrench, torque the drain plug to 22 ft. lb.
Oil Filter Location
The oil filter on the Audi A4 2.0T is located just above the subframe on the drivers side of the engine and near to the transmission. See section starting at 3:10 of the video for full description of Audi A4 2.0T oil filter location.
How To Step 6
First remove the sensor plug from the motor mount. Then unscrew the oil filter housing drain cap.
How To Step 7
Install oil filter tool T40057 which allows the oil filter housing to be drained. As you thread in the tool, it will release the valve that is in the filter housing and the oil will begin to drain out of the filter housing. Once drained, remove tool T40057.
How To Step 8
Using a 36mm socket loosen the Audi A4 oil filter housing. Then use your hands to loosen the last few treads. Be careful to keep the oil filter tipped up to avoid any dripping.
How To Step 9
Remove the old oil filter from the housing. Remove the o-ring that is around the inside of the housing.
How To Step 10
Using a little bit of fresh oil, lubricate the new o-ring. Install the new lubricated o-ring into the filter housing. This aids in the proper sealing of the new oil filter.
How To Step 11
Using a little bit of fresh oil, lubricate the new o-ring seals on both the top and bottom of the new oil filter. This aids in the proper sealing of the new oil filter.
How To Step 12
Install the new oil filter into the housing. There is no differ en ace from the top to the bottom on this particular filter. Gently press down until you hear it pop into place in the housing.
How To Step 13
Re-install the new oil filter and housing. Hand tighten to put into place and then finish using the 36mm socket. Torque to 25 newton meters.
How To Step 14
Reinstall the oil filter housing drain cap. Reinstall the sensor plug from the motor mount.
How To Step 15
Fill the engine with factory approved VW 502 00 spec Audi A4 motor oil. The oil fluid capacity of the 2.0T Audi A4 engines is 4.6 liters.
How To Step 16
Re-install the oil fill cap. Start and run the engine for about 30 seconds. This will allow the Audi A4 oil filter to completely fill. Turn engine off. With the vehicle back on a level surface, make a final oil level inspection. Add more Audi approved oil as needed.
How To Step 17
Before re-stalling the splash pan observe the oil drain plug and oil filter housing areas for leaks.
How To Step 18
Use a regular screw driver to re-install Audi A4 splash pan. It's easiest to slide in one of the front corners first and work your way around to secure the front side fasteners. Then tip up the back side and secure the fasteners along the rear of the splash pan, followed by the ones in the drivers side and passengers wheel wells.
How To Step 19
Dispose of waste oil responsibly by taking it to a certified recycling collection center.
