This Mid-Low SAPS (Sulfated Ash Phosphorus Sulfur) formulation is suitable for diesel engines with tier 2-3 emission systems in the USA and Euro 5 systems in Europe, extending diesel particulate filter (DPF) life and allowing for extended oil change intervals. The MB 229.51 specification requires a high temperature, high shear viscosity (HTHS) of 3.5 mPa*s, a TBN (Total Base Number) of 6.0 or higher, and viscosity grades of 0W-30, 5W-30, or 5W-40, using group III or a mix of group III and IV base oils. Correlating to the ACEA C3 oil specification, it has been recommended for certain Mercedes gasoline engines since 2019 due to stricter EPA tier standards, requiring low SAPS oil for engines with GPF (Gasoline Particulate Filter) emission systems. This includes the 2.0-liter M260, M264, and 3.0-liter M256 V6 gasoline engines.
