The new oil pan drain plug goes 3/4 of the way and binds. Is this the correct oil drain plug?
All USA-available 2.0L Volkswagen and Audi TDI diesel oil pan drain plugs are 14mm x 1.5 thread pitch. The drain plug provided in our TDI diesel oil change kits is an original replacement design and has the needed 14mm x 1.5 pitch threads.
If the drain plug provided only threads in a few threads and then gets resistance for the remaining threads, this is a sign of damaged oil pan threads. The old drain plug removed from the oil pan has been distorted, and the oil pan thread has also been distorted due to over-tightening or being over-torqued. This causes the thread shape of the 1.5 pitch to change or differ in angle, causing thread resistance slightly.
Our suggested solution is to use the appropriate new M14 drain plug sealing washer and the existing drain plug, confirming that the factory drain plug can be torqued to 22 ft-lbs. Also, you can choose to replace an oil pan if leaks are observed and the factory 22 ft-lb drain plug torque spec cant be met.
