Ram 1500 Engine Air Filter Replacement Video Guide

How To Step 1

Locate the engine air box on the right side of the engine.

How To Step 2

Loosen the Qty 6 - 10mm air box cover mounting screws in a counterclockwise direction. These encased screws only need to be loosened and do not need to be removed entirely from the air box cover.

How To Step 3

Guide the top side of the air box upwards and remove the old air filter. A small flat-blade screw drive may be needed to lightly pry up the old air filter while it's being removed.

How To Step 4

Clean and remove any debris from the air box area.

How To Step 5

Slide the new air filter into the air box. Confirm that the outside foam sealing edges of the air filter is seated on the bottom side of the air box.

How To Step 6

Set the top portion of the air box onto the air filter. Again, confirm that the outside foam sealing edges of the air filter is aligned and seated correctly to the top portion of the air box.

How To Step 7

Lightly hand-tighten the six 10mm air box mounting screws in a clockwise direction.

How To Step 8

Once you have confirmed all the threads are correctly started, evenly tighten all six 10mm screws to a snug, hand-tight feel.

Helpful Ram Air Filter Replacement Information and Reminders

What Does Your Ram 1500 Air Filter Do?

Your Ram 1500 engine air filter removes dirt, particles, dust, and soot before entering the engine's air intake system. This prevents accelerated internal engine wear or damage and sensitive electronic component damage. Regular air filter changes can extend your Ram 1500 engine life and reduce long-term maintenance costs.

Ram 1500 Air Filter Replacement Intervals

We recommend replacing your Ram 1500 air filter once every three years or every 30,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Ram 1500 owners that drive consistently down dirt or gravel roads should have the engine air filter replaced more frequently, such as 20,000 miles. Also, regular air filter changes can optimize the engine's air intake system and support better and consistent fuel economy.

Also, something to consider is that forced induction engines like the supercharged Ram TRX ingest a higher volume of air into the intake system when compared to a non-forced induction engine. This allows dirt and debris to clog the engine's air filter. Forced induction engines like the supercharged Ram 1500 TRX should have the air filter changed more frequently, such as every 20,000 miles, to prevent contaminated air ingestion.
