Engine Oil Pan and Oil Pan Drain Plug Reminders? Always use a torque wrench to achieve the factory recommended toque specification for your engines oil pan drain plug. Most oil leaks can occur from the engines oil drain plug area due to the following reasons. Being under tightened or over tightened, missing a sealing washer, using non factory specified drain plugs and sealing washers, worn oil pan drain threads, or flawed sealing and mating surfaces. When performing your oil change you should always inspect your oil pan drain plug and sealing washer mating areas. If you observe flawed areas on these surfaces replace your drain plug, drain plug sealing washer, or repair the oil pan drain plug sealing area. You should also inspect the engines oil pan drain threads. Often times due to repeated drain plug removal these threads can become stripped or excessively worn. Due to worn oil pan threads the factory torque value can not be reached with the oil pan drain plug. If the oil pan drain threads are excessively worn it is best to replace the oil pan with a new one. We do not recommend after marked oil pan drain plug repair kits.
