About Blauparts

Founded in the early 1990s in Wisconsin, Blauparts is a family-owned business built on a passion for European cars. Our journey began even earlier, rooted in a Blau family legacy within the import automotive industry dating back to the mid-1960s.

Explore Our History: A Legacy of Automotive Expertise

1960s

Tosa Imports

The Blau family legacy starts with Tosa Imports, established around 1965 by Jim Blau Sr., becoming Wisconsin's first franchised dealer for SAAB, Volvo, Alfa Romeo, Triumph, and Suzuki motorcycles. Jim Sr. wasn't just a dealer; he was an entrepreneur, engineer, inventor, and active race car driver, competing in D-Production racing with cars like a Triumph TR-6 and Alfa Romeo Spyder. Around 1966, he designed the innovative Cycle Sno-Shoo, the earliest known snow bike, timber sled system.

1970s

SnoWay

Jim Sr. designed and engineered the SnoWay snowplow, holding multiple U.S. and worldwide design patents for lightweight plow technology for compact vehicles. The first SnoWay was fitted to a Subaru 4x4 in 1977 and introduced in 1978. Jim Blau Jr. learned the trade working with his father, gaining experience in quality and manufacturing engineering. In the late 1980s, Jim Blau Jr. worked with Mopar engineers to make the Sno-Way the first official MOPAR branded snowplow accessory.

1980s

VOLVO Sport Restoration

Continuing the family's entrepreneurial spirit, the 1980s saw Jim Blau Jr. deepen his involvement in the automotive world. From 1985 to 1992, Jim honed his hands-on automotive skills by operating VOLVO Sport Restoration out of his own garage, meticulously servicing and restoring Volvos, often preparing them for resale through Tosa Imports.

1990s

The Foundation & Growth of Blauparts

The 1990s marked the official beginning of Blauparts, founded early in the decade as a specialized Audi and Volkswagen repair shop in Wisconsin. Operating initially from Alverno Road, the business quickly evolved beyond local repairs. Alongside repairs and used car sales, Jim Blau Jr. began developing and shipping mail-order repair kits. This decade saw the company share technical expertise through publications, launch one of the first automotive e-commerce websites, and develop helpful tool rental programs. Significant growth necessitated a move to a larger facility, coinciding with the pioneering introduction of several comprehensive 'First the World Over' maintenance kits. The decade closed with further innovations and the expansion of the BLAU® kit lines.

2010 to Present

Partnerships & Strategic Focus

Entering the 2010s, Blauparts continued its engineering focus, developing its own line of performance shocks and struts and innovative solutions like the Audi Allroad air suspension conversion kit. This era was marked by key strategic partnerships with major German manufacturers like RAVENOL and Schaeffler Group, ensuring access to high-quality lubricants and O.E. timing components. The company secured its '1st the World Over!' trademark, reflecting its history of innovation. More recently, Blauparts further sharpened its strategic direction with an updated mission and vision, expanded its premium fluid change kit offerings, and formed another valuable partnership with lubricant manufacturer Eurol, reinforcing its commitment to providing reputable maintenance solutions.

1st the World Over™

2010: We engineer and launch our BLAUsport Autobahn Series Shocks and Struts, designed to help owners ‘Feel the Road!’ and offered in convenient all-in-one kits. These were thoroughly tested on streets and racetracks like Road America.

2010: Established our YouTube channel as a proactive initiative to enhance customer support, with the first video focusing on oil leak diagnosis. This marked the beginning of our ongoing production of comprehensive DIY guides and technical tips, providing valuable resources to assist customers in servicing their vehicles effectively.

2011: Recognizing the need for high-quality lubricants, we establish a groundbreaking partnership with RAVENOL of Germany, specializing in their advanced oils and lubricants due to their exceptional quality and formulations. We also introduce the BLAU® Automatic Transmission Tail Shaft Flange Seal Leak Kit, another Blauparts first.

2012: We engineer the BLAU® Allroad Air Suspension Conversion Kit, providing a reliable and high-performance coil spring alternative to the problematic factory air suspension, saving owners thousands. This system was tested extensively, including at Road America.

2013: To ensure O.E. quality control, we establish a partnership with Schaeffler Group Automotive, a leading German O.E. supplier. This allows us to offer the best components in our Gen II BLAU® Timing Belt Replacement Kits, matching the quality supplied directly to vehicle manufacturers.

2014: We obtain the trademark for '1st the World Over!', recognizing our decades of innovation in introducing unique products and maintenance kits, stemming from our hands-on repair experience.

2017: To support continued growth, we launch a new and improved blauparts.com website with enhanced navigation and product filtering options, quicker checkout with more flexible payment options, and our BlauRewards program.

2019: We refine our focus with a new, clearer mission statement and company vision.

2020: We continue expanding our fluid change line with BLAU® Differential & Transfer Case Fluid Change Kits.

2022: We partner with Eurol, becoming an official distributor. This partnership aligns with our synergistic values and focus on "golden rule" principles, giving customers another advanced lubricant option and moving us closer to our vision.
