Subject: VW Alternator Freewheel Clutch Pulley (aka over-running alternator pulley)
Application: 1998-2008 VW Beetle 1.9L TDI
Part Number: GA1100-O
Release Date: 1/14/2015
Blauparts would like to announce INA over-running alternator pulleys for the Volkswagen Beetle TDI A4 platform models.
Getting accessory belt (aka serpentine belt) vibration flapping noises on your VW Beetle? Accessory belt problems can be easily misdiagnosed, particularly those with an over-running alternator pulley. After hearing belt noises coming from the accessory belt area and upon visual inspection, many notice excessive belt and tensioner vibration and flapping. Oftentimes this is misdiagnosed as a bad belt and weak accessory belt tensioner spring. In most cases the excessive belt vibration and flapping is caused by the over-running alternator pulley going bad.
The function of the VW Beetle TDI over-running alternator pulley is to disengage and dampen the alternator from the rotational energy of the engine. This allows the accessory belt system to run more smoothly, minimize belt noise, and variation. Also, rotational inertia is decreased, lowering drive belt slippage during deceleration and hard acceleration. Long term the over-running alternator pulley gives reduced stress on accessory drive belt components.
