An Example of How To Decipher Your VIN Number
Your shopping for a timing belt kit and have an 1999 Audi A6 2.8 liter 30 valve. You find there is a VIN split in 1999 and that there are 2 possible kits for your application. First obtain your complete VIN number from either the drivers side windshield or the drivers side door jam label. Let's say your VIN number was WAUBA24B3XN104537. You'll need the last SIX digits (WAUBA24B3XN 104537).
#1 Kit Description: 1999 - 1999 Audi A6 2.8 Liter 30 Valve > Up to Vin 104400
#2 Kit Description: 1999 - 2001 Audi A6 2.8 Liter 30 Valve > Starting with Vin 104401
Which kit would you choose? Since the last SIX digits 104537 come after the VIN split of 104400, you would choose the SECOND kit (#2 Kit Description Says: 1999 - 2001 Audi A6 2.8 Liter 30 Valve > Starting with Vin 104401).
